Objective<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main goal of the ideate phase was to generate and develop a diverse range of possible design solutions. This goal was achieved by collaborating as a team, reflecting on user needs and goals, and using the creative matrix to quickly brainstorm ideas and creating “How Might We” questions simultaneously. Beginning the individual process of designing our own unique solution, I created a storyboard and user flow diagram to visualize interactions between user and system, the tasks required to complete user goals, and to discover any points of friction with the proposed solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI Usage<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this process, our team utilized ChatGPT as a resource to generate a few HMW questions as a starting point and rephrase certain questions. For example, one of the most helpful ChatGPT outputs we got was from our prompt, “Generate a series of ‘How Might We’ questions for a creative matrix that addresses the needs, goals, and challenges stated in the files attached (we provided the AI with our user persona and user journey map)<\/strong>. With the AI’s ability to remember previous conversations, context, and roles within our DES 3643 file, ChatGPT provided us with several HMW questions categorized into a few themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all the questions that ChatGPT gave us, we realized that most of them were either too broad, too specific, or overall not helpful. We selected the questions that we thought were the best, and then continued to evolve them to be more beneficial with the help of our professor’s feedback. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benefits Realized<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ChatGPT acted as an additional teammate, which saved us time with creating the creative matrix, and its HMW questions also allowed us to brainstorm new solutions foreign to the previous ones we got from the user journey map. For example, one of the HMW questions it provided was, “How might we make planning feel rewarding?” Although we didn’t include this question in our creative matrix, it made us think about how including a reward system when users complete tasks could be motivating for users. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another activity that we did was learning about HAX guidelines and how we would implement them into the AI system of our solution. The most helpful thing I learned from the guidelines was supporting efficient invocation, dismissal, and correction, which I included in my user flow diagram. Giving users the choice to initiate AI interaction and reject suggestions limits user frustration when the AI is not providing feedback that aligns with user needs.

Storyboarding and user flow diagrams were new to me, and I was able to learn a lot about their benefits to my design thinking process. Both methods allowed me to realistically envision possible interactions between the user and the system. Creating images in a sequential order, depicting a scenario our persona would experience, helped me see that maybe a chatbot in my app wouldn’t be beneficial since I could only come up with limited interactions with it in my story. The user flow diagram allowed me to focus on what actions and decisions the user needs to make to complete their goals. While creating the diagram, I was thinking about how the interface would look as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenges<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I struggled with creating a visual story that had specific moments for the climax and resolution because I feel like some of the features cover problems that are different. I think the current storyboard may be too broad, as it covers the persona’s experience over a week and a half rather than a specific situation. Before creating the user flow diagram, I had trouble deciding which 3 features to focus on since they all felt important to me. It was also difficult for me to decide if I should add certain things to the diagram. For example, when users view collective availability and want to share their schedule, I want to include giving users the option to select which parts of their free time they want to make public, but I wasn’t sure if that belonged in the specific series of tasks for viewing collective availability. Adding tasks into users’ calendars is the main way users will be interacting with the app, but the flow is very short, so I’m not sure if that is the right feature to focus on. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
